What is the Role of a Charter School Board Member?

The most common training topic I get asked to facilitate is, What is the role as a charter school board member? What is it that I am actually supposed to be doing each?   

It is a great question to ask because what I have found is that if a board does not have clearly defined and communicated roles, and designed a process to ensure board members stay within that role, then board members can decide to act anyway they choose.
