I believe when you do what you love, it is NOT really work.
Seven years ago this was my last week of “real work.” I mean a place where I had to report every day, be somewhere at a certain time and oh yeah, had a boss.
I still remember finishing up my last day as a consultant for the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction to start my own consulting, training and coaching business specifically schools and school leaders.
It was July 3rd of 2014.
I walked out of DPI with nothing but a cardboard box of "stuff" and a crazy vision of being the difference-maker in the leadership development of individuals and organizations.
To be honest, I had NO IDEA WHAT I was doing, but I was a little angry.
I was angry and frustrated with seeing SO many outstanding people, leading charter schools across the state, who were NOT meeting their potential. School leaders that were stressed to the max, working late hours, feeling under-appreciated, failing in their health, sacrificing the wrong things, having difficulty balancing work/home life and still not getting the results that their hard work deserved.
Maybe some of you can relate?
I could recognize this feeling and the "Am I doing enough" self-limiting beliefs in the principals and school leaders I served as a State Consultant because I was in their shoes just a few years prior.
When I was a Director of a Title I middle school (2009-2012), I had the feeling that no one was going to outwork me, that no one cared like I did, and that my ideas were sound. We got good results every year...but at extreme costs to my health, relationships, and reputation.
I was in a leadership position, but I was not a leader to everyone.
It wasn't until I became a certified coach, speaker and trainer with the John Maxwell Team in 2014 did I truly have an understanding of what effective leadership looks like, feels like, and the results you can truly get when you put those qualities and strategies into action.
I have learned that the more I know, the more I realize I don't know.
So that's why I work on those qualities and strategies every single day.
Over the past seven years this proven formula has kept me on the right path. I would love to share it with you.
Habits turn actions into attitudes, and attitudes into lifestyles.--
I live like a tourist. I travel the globe teaching leadership. After a strategic retreat my family and I just did two days on the beach. Living out our purpose.
We are just a few months away from being fully debt free. I have no stress over money.
Right now I am the interim head of two schools while running my business.....I am happier and healthier today than I can ever remember. No stress. No worries. Perfect health.
I don't share these things to impress you, I share them to impress upon you.
And that is what I want for you. I want you to go well beyond your goals.
We no longer need to worry about how fast can I learn or achieve. We will start asking, how far can I grow!!!!
Will you come along with me?
